Source of beauty: Dear Esther remake (HL2)

Spectacularly missed this a couple of days ago. You might know that a certain Mr. Robert Briscoe – level design genius who’s worked on titles such as Mirror’s Edge – is remaking thechineseroom’s remarkable, poetic non-game-mod Dear Esther. You might know that it’s looking beautiful. And since you’re probably infinitely quicker off the mark than me, you might know that Briscoe’s released a new batch of astonishingly pretty pictures into the wild.

I’ll not make any secret of the fact that I absolutely love Dear Esther. I’ve written about it extensively, and have even managed to slyly rope in Dan “thechineseroom” Pinchbeck for sort-of-design-consultant duties for my own mod, Post Script, though I don’t think he realises it yet. And I absolutely cannot wait to play this new build. I should be taking a look at a work-in-progress version in the coming months, if Briscoe keeps to his vaguely-sort-of-assurance that he’d have something for me to look at. For now, lots of extraordinary pictures that prove just how beautiful the Source Engine can still look.
