ModDB Mod of the Year Awards Round-Up

We’ve been pretty useless at covering the ModDB Mod of the Year awards so far. So let’s do a quick round-up of what’s winning so far.

Best Original Art Direction went to UT2003 mod Out of Hell, a single-player zombie mod with a nice grimy style, but perhaps a surprising winner in a category including HL2 effort NeoTokyo and indie games such as A Reckless Disregard for Gravity and Zeno Clash. A similarly strange choice emerged through Naruto: Naiteki Kensei’s victory in the Best Upcoming Mod category, despite its having been released several weeks previously.

Meanwhile, MechWarrior: Living Legends (Crysis) picked up the Best Multiplayer Mod award, and The Nameless Mod (Deus Ex) – somewhat expectedly – bagged Best Singleplayer Mod.

All that means that the ModDB Editors’ Choice categories are up, and we’re just waiting for the Players’ Choice award-winners to be unveiled over the coming days. Congrats to all involved and victorious so far.

NNK was still upcoming in 2009, and since this is MOTY 2009, it’s not strange at all (considering it was highly anticipated as well).

Also, in Aaaaa! it’s “Reckless”, not “Wreckless”.

I was also surprised about Out of Hell actually. It looks pretty generic to me, but I never played it so I wouldn’t know.

  2. Lewis Denby says:

    Typos ahoy! Fixing now.

  3. Most of those are pretty good calls…I’ve just powered through TNM, and damn, it’s an incredibly mod.
