  • The return of CUTTER SLADE: Open Outcast (Crysis)

The weird old French adventure game, Outcast has just been released today over at GOG. Giving us all a chance to rediscover its voxel-tastic landscapes and awesome music, hopefully without the game’s trademark tendency to crash horribly every few seconds.

But what if, instead of the old game, there was somehow a chance to play a demo of a spiritual sequel made by some talented modders who have repurposed the CryEngine to bring us a shiny modern take on Outcast’s blocky old world?

    Oh my god there is.

The demo leans heavily on the walkin’/talkin’ side of things, which makes the lack of any facial animation slightly off-putting, but it’s early days for Open Outcast, and much can be forgiven for the lovely, lovely skies. Also there’s no way I can pass up on the opportunity to play a man named CUTTER SLADE, which is the second best name in gaming (the first is Mace Griffin, obv).

    Video!
