Mod Our Comments: More Mods for Game X!

Welcome back to another edition of Mod Our Comments! For those of you who missed out on last episode of our mad epopee to comment heaven, Mod Our Comments is our not-at-all-regular feature where we ask you, our ever dwindling but ever so awesome readerbase, what you think.

So, what is it this week?  This week, we want to know what games you really, really wish had more mods – either because there was never an SDK, or because nobody realised how awesome the game was, or for any number of depressing reasons.   So, tell us!  Tell us of the opportunities lost, the mods left unfinished, and the hopes dashed against the harsh rocks of the internet waves.  We want to know!

  1. I’ll start! Mirror’s Edge! So much potential, such a dismal amount of content. So incredibly good, and yet so short. A thriving mod community could have made this game the most replayable thing short of actual real life, but an SDK was never released :(

Also, Deus Ex! While it has some mods, who doesn’t want more Deus Ex?

  2. DuckSauce says:

Lead&Gold: Gangs of the Wild West.

An indie title that just great fun, it used some fancy commercial engine though that didn’t allow an SDK of any kind, it could have really taken off even better with people making maps and other content for it.

  3. Yeah, I’d heard it was pretty good – I really need to get ahold of it.

Also, random question, UserCreated server, good idea?

  4. DuckSauce says:

Depends what exactly you’d use it for.
I’d say it being potentially usefull to breathe some life in releases with a low amount of servers(Ragnarok Arena being the most recent example I know of).

Additionaly, for games that have some mods, but you want more for them… the more servers, the more encouragement that there’s enough of a playerbase to consider (multiplayer)modding for that game.

Then again, servers ain’t cheap and it’d really depend for what mods the server is hosting for.

Events seem to often be a good way to attract players, although I’m not aware of how many people keep track of UserCreated here, but since the modding news posts on RPS link back here, events and a server to hold them on could together help out mod communities.

  5. IvanHoeHo says:

Far Cry 2! Another great game with some easily fixed fatal flaws.

    Fucking DLCs.

  6. Damn, good call on Far Cry 2 – so much potential :(

  7. DrGonzo says:

Dawn of War 2. I know it is technically modable but not easily.

We need a Space Hulk mod true to the tabletop for DOW 2.

  8. Edge says:

Supreme Commander:FA, easily modifiable but not many mods.

  9. Grape Flavor says:

I second Deus Ex. Specifically, graphics mods.

I find it puzzling that people have completely overhauled STALKER and Oblivion yet no one has managed to get so much as a half-decent texture pack out for Deus Ex.

Surely Deus Ex is in much more need of an update than those other games?

Also I agree it’s a shame that modders haven’t been able to smooth Far Cry 2′s rough edges like was also done for STALKER and Oblivion.

  10. Well, there are some great mods for Deus Ex – they just never seem to get done :P
