Dead in the water? Mafia: Titanic
Posted on July 21st, 2010 7 comments
Novelty time! You know, the way Kotaku post photos of people who’ve built lifesize Gundam robots out of butter, or something. Seriously, I was wondering whether or not to upload this, given the project appears to have stalled for good, despite the creator loudly protesting otherwise back in… November of last year. But with the Mafia II digital limited edition just up for pre-order today, I couldn’t resist linking to this because, well, look at it. It’s undeniably impressive, but also a little scary.
That’s right; you didn’t get get many mods for Mafia at the best of times (or at least I was unaware of them, if they existed) and here’s someone who is or was building the Titanic with it. The Titanic. Big ship. You may have heard of it. The whole thing. Look, and be amazed. I’m not sure what you’d do in there beyond play virtual tourist in a graphics engine that’s nearly a decade out of date, but I’m still a little disappointed the modder’s probably not going to finish it. Prove me wrong, Mrrobville. Prove me wrong.
Mafia: Titanic’s page on ModDB can be found here.

Mafia is a weird choice of engine, but it all looks to be made in a 3D package, so once done it could be ported over to Crysis or UDK or something, which would render all the effort a bit more worthwhile. Still bonkers though.

Man, this is one of the greatest things about modding. Unique, strange dreams taken to fruition that only an investor under the influence of thirty grams of mescaline and a limitless trust fund would support.

no reason for canceling, especialy not since titanic mod has got a new modeller on the team which brings fast progress on the mod.
rought release date is somewhere this year, but i can tell now that i can not make that. even though were making fast progress it takes some time to get this mod in pure perfection. we want to populate the ship, and sink the ship aswell.trust me, i finish what i start.
and don’t worry, this mod won’t release near the year 3010.
